I get the chance to write frequently for work. So far, I’ve produced three articles under a current events series. The series was an initiative I started, because I saw an opportunity for PHC4’s data and work to discuss more topics than just the ones listed in our public reports.

This was one of the first collaborative projects produced at PHC4 in recent years to combine clinical and financial data to tell a more complete story. PHC4 staff from across departments came together to make this project a reality, because the topic is important.
This analysis uncovered an impact to mental health care for patients in the county where the closed hospitals resided. We also took the time to put out one of PHC4’s first promotional videos, centering on a timeline of events around the closures, and a summary targeted towards our audience of legislators.
Operationally, this article also serves as an advertisement for the PHC4 data that the public can purchase to answer questions like the ones in this article.

One of the first projects I worked on was a survey analysis for the PA Rare Disease Advisory Council. This article adds context and helps with plain language explanations, why it is so challenging to study rare diseases. The survey analysis is shown early on and the article then discusses the challenges of low volume and of handling over- or under-estimates.
The survey results were passed to a couple of other analysts after I had touched them and they ended up being published in Public Health Reports. It’s a pleasure to have worked on this important topic and to have been acknowledged for my work.

The first article in the series introduced the topic of non-compete agreements and how they’re employed in the health care setting across the country. The impetus for this article was a law passed in July of 2024, PA Act 74 of 2024. The law required PHC4 to study the impacts of limiting certain health care non-compete agreements to a single year after voluntary departure of the employee. I’ve been leading this study and our findings are due January of 2028.
